Consumer Reports 2020: Mazda Is Now The Most Reliable Auto Brand On The Market, Period, Full Stop, No Arguments
November 20 2020, Centennial Mazda
According to Consumer Reports' 2020 reliabilty findings, the most reliable auto brand on the market is Mazda. Consumer Reports is the most trusted name when it comes to vehicle reliability information for a number of reasons.
- They're 100% independent. Consumer Reports accepts no advertising dollars.
- Their sampling size is huge. For 2020, reliability data was calculated from 329,000 vehicles, and that information is weighted based on 17 main potential trouble areas.
- Consumer Reports is more than just an auto researcher – they study reliability in all kinds of consumer goods.
- Consumer Reports studies a broad time period, not just the first 90 days of ownership. Vehicles in 2020's reliability study are from model years 2000 all the way up to 2020.
And when the final scores are calculated, Mazda is No.1, well ahead of brands with traditionally high reliability scores. Historically, Toyota and its upmarket Lexus brand have been legends in this field. But now Mazda, with a score of 83, finished 12% ahead of Toyota and 17% ahead of the score achieved by Lexus.
Mazda's 83-point score is a far cry from that of many other brands, such as Tesla at 29, Volkswagen at 36, Ford at 38, and Chevolet at 42. Even the 57-point score of Subaru and Hyundai's 62-point score are well back of Mazda.
Based on available data, Consumer Reports predicts "all Mazdas will have above-average reliability." That includes the CX-5, which tops the small SUV category, Canada's highest-volume vehicle segment. "The entire lineup benefits from many shared platforms and components," Consumer Reports says, "with only modest changes during redesigns."
Due to the brand's exceptional reliability, Mazda is able to offer a warranty like no other. Mazda's Unlimited Mileage Warranty is the only one of its kind in Canada.
