A Closer Look At Your Favourite Mazda Concept Vehicle: The Mazda VISION COUPE
August 23 2021, Centennial Mazda
Last month we took a look at some of Honda’s most creative concept vehicles and asked you to vote for your favourite car that didn’t quite make the cut. You cast your ballots, we tallied the votes, and one concept vehicle emerged as the clear frontrunner . . . the Mazda VISION COUPE.
Officially unveiled in October of 2017 at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show, the Mazda VISION COUPE is a representation of Mazda’s design vision for their next-generation models. This eye-catching sedan is a more mature expression of their KODO (Soul of Motion) design philosophy, applying a Japanese aesthetic to achieve more elegant and premium styling.
The exterior features a "one motion" form that exudes a sense of speed, free of all fussy or unnecessary elements, a key factor in Mazda’s minimalist design approach. While the interior is just as luxurious and refined. The cabin of the Mazda VISION COUPE combines three-dimensional depth with a strong longitudinal axis to create a relaxed space. A driver-focused dashboard and screens that remain hidden until the driver requires them play into the coupe’s minimalist design.
Although the VISION COUPE hasn’t been greenlit for mass production, a Mazda spokesperson says its design will serve as inspiration for future generations. “Watch for themes present on this car to appear on the next batch of Mazda products, including sweeping, single-arc shoulder lines, better-articulated versions of the five-point grille, round lighting elements from which stringlike LED turn signals flow inboard, and hoods that extend all the way to the tip of the nose.”
