2022 Mazda CX-5: What Are All The Updates For Canada's Most Popular Mazda?
September 14 2021, Centennial Mazda
For the upcoming 2022 model year, every single vehicle in Canada's Mazda CX-5 lineup will come standard with i-Activ all-wheel drive. Mazda's predictive AWD system, which uses 27 sensors to monitor the road 200 times per second, is no longer a $1,500 option on the CX-5 GX and CX-5 GS – it's included with every CX-5.
Yet Mazda's all-season, all-road, all-weather all-wheel-drive system isn't the only update for the 2022 CX-5. There are exterior updates, as well. They're subtle, but Mazda fans will easily spot the 2022 model.
- Mazda says there's a "new signature wing that extends outward from the front grille," while the grille includes more 3D-like texture rather than a mesh surface.
- Headlights and taillights now use horizontally aligned rectangular LEDs.
- There are new wheel designs.
- The 2022 CX-5 GT will be more visually distinguished by gloss black finishes for a sportier look.
- The 2022 CX-5 Signature uses more body colour trim and cladding as well as brighter silver wheels.
Mazda believes wholeheartedly in continual improvement, not just significant overhauls every four or five or six years when a new generation is launched. So for 2022, Mazda's updates virtually everything, from the seats and suspension to the transmission and the addition of Mi-Drive modes.
The seats, for example, will hold you a bit tighter for greater stability. The 2022 Mazda CX-5's frame is more rigid, so Mazda had the flexibility to improve the dampening for superior ride quality. The transmission shifts more smoothly, road noise has decreased, vibration is supressed. On and on it goes.
The Mazda CX-5 was already a best-in-class SUV, which explains why it's earned a Car And Driver 10 Best award in four consecutive years.
Now, it's even better.
