2023 Mazda CX-5 vs 2023 Mazda CX-50 – What's The Difference?
June 19 2023, Centennial Mazda
Their names couldn't be much more similar. Their powertrains are identical. Their dimensions are similar, albeit not identical.
Yet the Mazda CX-50 that was launched for the 2023 model year and the Mazda CX-5 that has been around for a decade (and in second-generation form since 2017) aren't new or old versions of the same vehicle. They're not simply fraternal twins. They're different, and they focus on different tasks. The CX-50 possesses a more rugged orientation (check out our off-road video in Prince Edward Island) while the CX-5 is more broadly oriented for a market that routinely makes it Mazda's best seller.
And it's one of Canada's best-selling SUVs, too.
Rather than focus on every single element of the CX-5 and CX-50, our intention for this space is to highlight the differences. We've compiled dimensions (interior and exterior) along with a look at which engines go with which trim levels, off-road functionality, wheel sizes, upholstery, comfort features, different tech aspects, and price. Keep in mind, all CX-5s and CX-50s come standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission, Mazda's predictive i-Activ all-wheel drive, a wide array of active safety features, a 10.25-inch centre display, and much more.
